Yesterday I got a chance to drive my uncles Audi A6 2.7T quattro. And sweet jesus was it nice. The acceleration was superb for a 3800lb+ car and it handled like a dream. He opted for the Auto-Stick Option, which I thought kinda screwy. I say this because the transmissions response was strange, given to the fact that there is no clutch for you to regulate the shift. When I first took off I didnt realize that the car was in auto-stick mode so I pretty much mashed the pedal and to my suprise, the car ran up to red line and shifted with a wierd thump. All I could think was What in the hell is wrong with this car? The car eventually senses the lack of gear change and automatically puts it up a gear (a neat little feature). Once getting on the Interstate, the fun started. The on ramp was a nice turn-style enterance where the car easily kept its grip all the way up to around 75 :). ANd I tell you, that cars grip is tenacious, and the sound is beautiful when wide open. Although I could sense a little bit of turbo-lag it the powerplant was quick and responsive. While driving this beauty I realized 2 things; First, Nothing can take the place of a manual transmissioned vehicle. When making a down shift on the highway and slamming the pedal, you should be able to thank your self for the smoothness, not some silly computer. And Second I NEED BOOST!
